IV Therapy for Immunity Boosting

Given that we are full on in cold and flu season, let’s talk about what we can do to boost the immune system. Step 1 - eat a well balanced diet of nutritious whole foods while getting 8+ hours of sleep a night and keep stress levels low. Step 2 - stay inside your hermetically sealed bunker until March 1st. Um, yeah, totally doable.

All kidding aside, putting your health as a top priority and feeding your body nutritious food is great. If you don’t have a hermetically sealed bunker - or you have small vectors of disease that come and go from your bunker and spend their day with other little vectors sharing snot and other fluids, you won’t be able to completely avoid disease. The most you can do is to try to make any contact you do have with germs minimal and don’t give them an opening to get a foot in the door - and no, this doesn’t meaning clorox wiping the groceries. That being said, the week all the kids go back to school and share all the germs they have gotten from traveling to or being visited by family from all over the country will really stir things up. The only way to really stir it up is for a freeze to come through and trap everyone inside - oh wait, that’s the weather forcast for the day this blog comes out.

So, what can you do that’s more realistic. You can take oral vitamin C, zinc and vitamin B. You cannot easily buy forms the body can easily use at the elevated doses needed to make a big difference, but look for elemental zinc and if you can do 5,000 IU a day of Vit D, it’s a good start. Or, we could make this much simpler with IV therapy. For immune boosting, we can provide elemental zinc, high doses of vitamin C and vitamin B12.

Vitamin C is an antioxidant that helps protect cells from damage so your skin barriers stay intact, promotes white blood cell function and helps with the production of antibodies. While it’s rare that someone would be so deficient that they might develope scurvy these days, most of us could use a little more. In addition to its immune boosting side effects, it also aids in collagen production, so vitamin C serum for the skin is also very popular.

Zinc is an element that acts as a coenzyme in a number of cellular reactions. It helps to make sure that immune reactions are to the correct things and that they are effective in defending the body. It also acts as an antioxidant. The biggest challenge with zinc is getting it absorbed and getting it in the most useful form, which is elemental zinc ( as opposed to zinc sulfate, which is usually what you find at the grocery store.

B vitamins are involved in the production of new whte blood cells, the creation of antibodies for white blood cell signalling and are powerful regulators of inflammation. B12 in particular is invaluable for DNA synthesis and helps with revving up the immune system in response to invaders. The biggest problems with the B vitamins is absorption. They can only be absorbed from a particular portion of the stomach and requires a certain amount of stomach acid to be present. Also, for vegans and vegetarians who avoid eggs, there are very limited options for the B vitamins and deficiencies among this group are common.

So, how do we get your immune system in ship shape condition so you can master cold and flu season? IV therapy provides an excellent option. We bypass absorption issues, provide vitamins in their ready to use form and stop you from just having really expensive urine. Feel free to check out the services page for pricing and call us if you find yourself in need. If you happen to thing you already have the flu, or as this year’s lysol commercial calls it - the flunorococovirus, we can bring the IV therapy to you - in the privacy of your bunker and hopefully help limit any germ spread.
